Directing for the Camera

Consider this a crash course on directing for the camera. In this session, we will discover:

How to use your knowledge of stage directing in film; The role of the director in all stages of production; Through a practical exercise, how to block for the camera and prepare a shot list; And, we will finish with some suggested assignments for your students – that they can achieve with only the resources they have on hand - no expensive equipment or large film crew needed!

    Matthew Kowalchuk

    Matthew Kowalchuk is an award-winning Producer, Screenwriter, and Director based in Vancouver. His film LAWRENCE & HOLLOMAN (adapted from the Morris Panych play) won the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Feature; he is also known for directing the acclaimed musical short, BEDBUGS: A MUSICAL LOVE STORY. Matthew has a deep background in acting and directing for the stage, and began his career innocently enough, as an improvisor with Edmonton’s storied Rapid Fire Theatre.
